Ga-young Kim

Ga-young's research focuses on architecture in the Soviet Union and its intellectual and material exchanges across regional and national boundaries. Drawing on sociological and anthropological approaches, she examines how the Soviet built environment was shaped through both domestic experimentation and transnational circulation, and what aesthetic, political, environmental, and experiential consequences emerged from these processes. More broadly, she is interested in how material culture connects places, people, and ideas around the world. Ga-young earned a B.A. in Media Studies and Sociology and an M.A. in Art History from Ewha Womans University. She is currently a REEES Cluster Fellow and a Pony Chung Scholar. In her spare time, she enjoys knitting and playing tennis.
