Jake Waits

Jake Waits is a doctoral student working on modern and contemporary art with a focus on performance, conceptualism, and critical theory. He is particularly interested in performance practices and artist networks across Central and Eastern Europe in the mid to late twentieth century. Broadly, his research engages with the relationship between performance and its archive, modernist historiographies, and how the body is brought to bear on conceptual practices. In 2021, Jake received a BA in Art History from the University of Washington, where his most recent research focused on performance art in 1970s Czechoslovakia. Jake is a Mellon Fellow in Critical Theory at Northwestern.
